Voluntary Benefit Schemes

A new report published by Benefits Research 2014 suggests that benefit schemes such as gym memberships and discounts on leisure activities are the most popular optionsĀ an employer can offer.

As more and more employers practice employee wellbeing initiatives and other forms of employee engagement, offering subsidised or discounted gym memberships is one way to offer perks to employees whilst also taking an interest in their health and wellbeing.

There are also an increasing number of employers who offer discounts for retail and leisure outlets which can help employees to feel more valued as well as helping to make up for the fact that pay rises and other financial products such as bonuses continue to remain low when compared to the rises in inflation and the cost of living. Other voluntary employee benefit products continue to be popular, such as private medical insurance, dental care and being able to buy or sell holidays.

Many voluntary employee benefits offer ways for employers to offer benefits to their employees at no additional cost to them, whilst employees are able to get reductions in the amount of tax paid with some voluntary employee benefits.

Taking up offers of reduced gym memberships and other voluntary employee benefits are great ways to encourage workers to take responsibility for their health and that of their families in a way which is affordable and beneficial to their wellbeing.
