HR Solutions Webinar:  Parental Bereavement Leave and Pay

Presently, February 2019,  mourning the recent loss of a child does not in itself mean that an employer is automatically obligated to permit the parent to have authorised absence from work. This may seem surprising to some, but it is in line with the fact that there is no statutory right to compassionate leave.

The criteria which will surround parental bereavement leave and pay went through consultation, which ended in June 2018. As part of the consultation, the government sought the views of employers, parents and others on how the rights should apply, what would be beneficial to parents and the practicalities of implementation for both employers and parents.

The responses were reviewed, and the details of the Act have been published meaning that HR departments and managers can now start planning (or revising) their approach, procedures and policies, so they may ensure they can at least get the basics handled correctly at such a tragic time.

There is not yet a specific date for when this will be enforced, but it is likely to be in 2020 at the latest.

In this webinar we will cover:

– Existing provisions (Time off for dependants)
– Eligibility
– Entitlement
– How the leave may be taken
– Rights during and after
– Application to stillbirths
– Implementing practice, procedures and policies.
