Laura is a CIPD qualified HR Practitioner and Project Manager with more than 20 years of experience within Care Homes, NHS CCGs, UK non-profit organisations (Hospices), utilities, global pharmaceutical, and manufacturing organisations.
Laura spent a total of eight years working as a Commercial Manager for a luxury tour operator in which she could express her creative skills through designing and developing brochures and marketing material.
However, Laura’s passion was for teaching, and she therefore decided to pursue that interest further, by opting for a degree with the Open University.
Although Laura realised soon after that HR was the right field for her, she believes that teaching and HR are similar and that many of the skills that she acquired during the degree can still be put to good use on a daily basis, when working with her clients.
Laura began her career as an HR Administrator for a Pharmaceutical company, having covered a colleague’s maternity leave, she enjoyed HR so much that Laura decided to build a career in the field and spent nine years with the business. Laura has progressed well in her career.
From starting as an HR Administrator to becoming Head of HR and now, an HR Consultant.
Laura has a proven record within HR and has formed many transferable skills, such as her ability to build relationships with members of the team and strategic problem-solving to ensure that she excels in her role.
In her spare time, Laura enjoys reading, jewellery making and travelling.
Laura’s Q&A
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
I am always saying to people “Every day is a school day” – I love learning and love continually improving and always encourage people to do the same.
What is your favourite song?
When I was younger, my first crush was on Marti Pellow of Wet Wet Wet and my favourite song he sung was Maggie May (originally by Rod Stewart – who I also think is great). It was on the first album I every brought with my own money.
What do you wish other people knew about HR Solutions?
Big enough to help, small enough to care – never a truer word spoken. Since joining the organisation, I have found everyone I have spoken to and met is so helpful, so knowledgeable and so wanting to do a good job. Everyone really cares about their clients, their colleagues and making sure they do the very best job they can
